Exercise 1: Romanian-American illustrator Saul Steinberg used surface structures in a humorous way. Four dressed-up women wear enormously voluminous coats, each with a different surface structure. Draw two friends next to each other, both wearing such a huge voluminous coat.

Exercise 2: Surface structures can be used effectively in clothing, as in the following examples. Redraw the outlines of one of these figures or print one of them and just trace its outlines. Then add your own surface structures in black and white or color.
