In the previous two chapters there was just one vanishing point on the horizon. F0r the building below I used of two vanishing points: one on the left for the front of the building and one on the right for the side. Check it out in the next exercise. Make sure your pencil is well sharpened and I recommend the use of a ruler.
Exercise: construction of a building with two vanishing points.
Step 1: draw a frame, a horizon and two vanishing points (V1 and V2) outside the frame. Draw four guiding lines from V1 and V2 (two from each vanishing point) to create a ground surface on which the house can stand.
Step 2: draw three vertical lines from the ground plane for (approximately) the height of the house. Because the building does not become transparent, you do not have to draw the fourth line from the rear corner of the ground plane.
Step 3: from a point on the middle vertical line draw flight lines to V1 and V2. You have now created a block shape in perspective. It doesn’t matter if lines stick out, like here on top of the block shape.
Step 4: determine the center of the front of the building (see Chapter 1) and put a gabled roof on it. The top of the roof runs to V2 just like the side of the house.
Step 5: finish the roof at the back. That line runs exactly as oblique as the roof edge at the front and does not have to run to V1 or V2. If you like, draw some windows and a door in the building.
Step 6: erase all lines that you find disturbing and finish it off with color and/or shadow and possibly a fine liner. You can come up with figures and a background.
