Characteristic of a person’s profile is mainly the line from forehead to nose, mouth and chin. For the next exercise, ask a family member or friend to pose for you ‘en profil’ (face from the side) or take/choose a photo of a profile.
Exercise: Try to draw only the profile from the forehead to the nose, mouth, chin and the transition to the neck. Start in the so-called broken drawing style (image): in the broken drawing style you first indicate the shape and directions in loose straight lines (left). Only then connect the lines with natural curves (right).
Tip: In men, the forehead line is usually more sloping, in women it is more vertical.
EXTRA: If you draw two profiles opposite each other you can play a joke with the residual shape between them. You either look at the vase with flowers or at the profiles. At the same time (at least for me) doesn’t work.
