Flags in schoolbooks or online are often depicted flat because it’s simply about identifying the country or perhaps the football club. For an artist or painter, it’s actually more fun to experiment with how to make a flag fly.
Exercise: draw several of the following flying flags. Follow the three steps to make it easier on yourself.
Step 1: First draw the continuous winding ‘S-line’. Sometimes this S-line lies at the top of the vlag, sometimes at the bottom.
Step 2: Draw the vertical lines exactly where the sway line changes direction and where the flag ends . Make sure the flag stays the same width everywhere.
Step 3: Finish the flag. Make the bends nice and round, so no sharp corners.
