A flag is made of a fabric and therefore not as tight as a plank. Of course in textbooks or on the internet flags are often depicted flat because it’s only purpose is recognizing the country or maybe the football club. For a draftsman or painter it is fun to try out how you can wave a flag. The following examples show you how to wave a flag.
Exercise: Draw several of these waving flags.
Step 1: First draw the continuous winding ‘S-line’. Sometimes this S-line lies at the top of the vlag, sometimes at the bottom.
Step 2: Draw the vertical lines exactly where the sway line changes direction and where the flag ends . Make sure the flag stays the same width everywhere.
Step 3: Finish the flag. Make the bends nice and round, so no sharp corners.
