The ‘front’ of a car often seems to have a facial expression. This facial expression is determined by the shape of the headlights (the eyes) and the grille (the mouth). There are comics in which a car with a face even comes to life.
Exercise: Take/choose a photo of the front of a car in which you already see a bit of a face. First try to draw the front as good as possible. Pay close attention to how slanted, straight or curved lines run. Then exaggerate the facial expression by accentuating the headlights and grille, as in the examples below. This way you may discover all kinds of funny faces.
The next car, a Morris Mini with a somewhat frightened facial expression, is not drawn straight from the front but in perspective. More about that in the next chapter.
