Rogier van der Erve graduated from the Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, specializing in drawing and free graphics. He obtained his first degree in drawing/art history at the HKU. He has worked for 25 years as a drawing teacher with children in a primary school. From 1994 to 2020 he also worked as an art teacher in the final stage of a secondary school.
